The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared Anne Kananu after she was appointed by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as the county’s deputy governor.
Kananu who was acting in the capacity of Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Disaster received her clearance certificate on Monday.
According to the constitution, a governor is supposed to submit the name of his deputy to IEBC for vetting.

At the time of the appointment, Sonko had been barred by the court from accessing his office, consequently various stakeholders questioned the legality of the appointment.
Following the approval by the commission, Governor Sonko is expected to forward Kananu’s name to the senate for approval or disapproval.
