Following the high number of deaths recorded in the state of New York due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the city has now opted to bury unclaimed bodies 15, 000 have died.
has been used the city to bury unclaimed bodies since 1800. Around 25 bodies are burried on the island by hired labourers every week, the number has since gone up since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.
The city estimates that around 120 bodies are burried on the island every week. The dead are wrapped in body bags and placed in caskets then their names are written on the casket before being burried in trenches dug by machines.
