Coronavirus : Tokyo 2020 Olympics postponed until 2021.

International Olympic Committee veteran member Dick Pound, has said that the Olympics slated to begin 24th June of this year has been postponed to 2021 in light of the prevailing coronavirus threat in Japan and around the world.

The announcement follows the declaration by the Japanese government that hosting the Olympics would be a daunting task considering the risks, the Prime Minister said that postponement of the games was inevitable.

The committee had been under pressure to postpone the games. Team Canada and Team Australia had withdrawn from the games long before the announcement was made.

IOC said that they would discus the way forward after the postponement but ruled out complete cancellation of the games.
